2023 Draft Selections

Image

G Weston Foster - #72 (49/83)
1st rd. 9th Overall
Bucknell
Post TC (TBD) - Wk. 1 (TBD)
Wonderlick Test - 39
40 Time - 5.01
Bench - 43
Agility - 7.60
Broad Jump - 8'11"

Foster allows 5th yr vet Glowinski to slide to right tackle. The front office wanted more beef up front and Weston Foster provides that at 320lbs.

Image

C Peyton Hollenbaugh - #76 (56/93)
1st rd. 16th Overall
Baylor
Post TC (TBD) - Wk. 1 (TBD)
Wonderlick Test - 17
40 Time - 4.86
Bench - 34
Agility - 7.55
Broad Jump - 8'8"

Hollenbaugh is a freak of nature. He moves extremely well for a 300 pounder and has the versatility to play multiple positions. Many question why Washington drafted Hollenbaugh since they have a quality starter in Schroeder, but Peyton will likely move to guard and help extend Bryan Bulaga's career, now that he's moved to left tackle.

Image

DE Artie Gonsales - #92 (19/34)
2nd rd. 42nd Overall
Southern Illinois
Post TC (TBD) - Wk. 1 (TBD)
Wonderlick Test - 15
40 Time - 4.70
Bench - 32
Agility - 7.37
Broad Jump - 8'8"

Washington turns to the defensive side of the ball in the second round by selecting Gonsales. The returning defensive ends on the roster accounted for just 6.5 sacks in 2022. Gonsales and free agent pickup, Noah Pearson will look to boost that lackluster total.

Image

DT Irving Johnston - #91 (29/52)
2nd rd. 47th Overall
Oklahoma
Post TC (TBD) - Wk. 1 (TBD)
Wonderlick Test - 13
40 Time - 5.16
Bench - 36
Agility - 7.43
Broad Jump - 8'3"

Johnston will have the opportunity to compete for the starting job. DC ranked 26th in rush defense last season, giving up 125.8 yards per game.

Image

LB Carson Coonradt - #50 (14/40)
4th rd. 118th Overall
Florida
Post TC (TBD) - Wk. 1 (TBD)
Wonderlick Test - 30
40 Time - 4.80
Bench - 26
Agility - 7.49
Broad Jump - 9'2"
Position Drill - 31

Coonradt enters a fairly deep line backing corps. The unit is missing the APFL All-Time tackles leader in, Darryl Washington, who retired with 1,076 solo tackles.

Image

WR Rich Holmes - #82 (10/31)
5th rd. 132nd Overall
Tulane
Post TC (TBD) - Wk. 1 (TBD)
Wonderlick Test - 30
40 Time - 4.64
Bench - 12
Agility - 7.30
Broad Jump - 9'0"
Position Drill - 55

Holmes will vie for the 4th receiver slot as veteran Marquis Lee will not be re-signed. Holmes lacks to the speed to get over the top, but is smart and runs crisp routes.

Image

T Kenyon McKnight - #74 (23/37)
5th rd. 145th Overall
Clark Atlanta
Post TC (TBD) - Wk. 1 (TBD)
Wonderlick Test - 31
40 Time - 5.28
Bench - 32
Agility - 7.74
Broad Jump - 8'2"

There is no depth at the tackle position and Washington selects McKnight to backup and learn from Bulaga. McKnight is from a small school and is raw at the moment.

Image

TE Alec Gerhardt - #89 (19/32)
6th rd. 174th Overall
Duke
Post TC (TBD) - Wk. 1 (TBD)
Wonderlick Test - 36
40 Time - 4.75
Bench - 17
Agility - 7.74
Broad Jump - 8'5"
Position Drill - 42

Gerhardt is a hybrid tight end that can lineup in the slot. He will backup 6th yr man, Claude Heekin.

Image

QB Dean Lewis - #11 (1/29)
6th rd. 176th Overall
Georgia
Post TC (TBD) - Wk. 1 (TBD)
Wonderlick Test - 37
40 Time - 4.91
Bench - 14
Agility - 7.43
Broad Jump - 8'7"
Position Drill - 80

It's not known where Lewis will fit in on this club. He is very raw, coming from the run first Georgia system, but did show he has some ability at the Combine.

Image

CB Britt Giel - #30 (19/30)
7th rd. 207th Overall
Florida
Post TC (TBD) - Wk. 1 (TBD)
Wonderlick Test - 32
40 Time - 4.53
Bench - 13
Agility - 7.24
Broad Jump - 9'3"
Position Drill - 46

With the final pick, DC takes former Gator, Giel. Giel doesn't have much in front of him as the dime corner, unless someone is brought in after training camp.

It may be too early, but D.C may be honing in on their next feature back.
